A Sunny, Spring Four-Day Weekend in Charleston, SC | Travel Guide | Pennsylvania and Tennessee Wedding Photographer

Charleston, South Carolina - home of Rainbow Row, Spanish moss, US history, sailboats, incredible food, pink doorways and so much more! Earlier in March, Collins, Megan and myself took a road trip to Charleston! This was all our first time exploring all Charleston had to offer and let me say, it did not disappoint! I’m already figuring out when I can get back to the charming coastal city. The girls planned this trip to explore and shoot a bunch of fun Spring fashion content for their blogs! I always love when I have the opportunity to travel with them and shoot new, exciting, inspiring content for them. :)

We stayed in the cutest Airbnb in the sweetest neighborhood located in Mount Pleasant, just over the bridge from Charleston. Mount Pleasant and Charleston are so idyllic! Every single street, home and street corner is so picturesque. You feel like you’re walking on streets out of a storybook that are lined with darling historical pastel painted homes and palm trees.

Food:

Tradds is a newer restaurant in Charleston, but one you should definitely add to your list! Their style and atmosphere is so unique and fun. It was a great place to grab drinks and a delicious entrée with a group of friends!

Basic Kitchen was most definitely my favorite food stop! We enjoyed a really lovely lunch there. We got to sample several options on their menu (salads, fish, nachos, fried cauliflower, and my favorite - sweet potato fries!). Basic Kitchen grows much of their food and vegetables out in the back where they have several garden boxes and adorable deck seating! I highly recommend reserving a spot for lunch at Basic Kitchen!

Coastal Crust Pizza is located in the adorable suburbia of Charleston, Mount Pleasant. Their pizza is incredible! You can also order a glass or bottle of wine or beer to pair with your oven-baked pizza. They also serve a delicious homemade ice cream sandwiches, which I could not pass up! It was so good!

To Do:

We took a horse drawn carriage tour with Old South Carriage Tours. Our tour guide was fantastic and we learned so much fascinating history about Charleston, the architecture and all the crazy building codes they have! They take their homes and building/restoring regulations very seriously.

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks (the movie) was filmed in Charleston! We had planned on taking the Notebook movie tour, but ran out of time. This came highly suggested to us by many, so I would love to take this tour next time I’m back!

We made a day trip down to Savannah, Georgia, which was a great decision! Savannah is about a two hour drive and totally worth it! I wish we would’ve had more time there! Savannah is just as darling and charming as Charleston, but in a small town kind of way! I could have easily spent a three-day weekend in Savannah (which will happen at some point). ;)

A few years ago, I was able to take a quick day trip to Savannah. I visited Wormsloe plantation and immediately fell in love with the mile long drive lined with majestic oak trees covered in Spanish Moss. I highly recommend visiting if you can! We had planned on visiting Boone Hall Plantation, but also ran out of time for that. Shooting fashion content can be more time consuming than people think! :)

When I visit a new place, I love to just take a day to walk around on the streets, explore, check out the shops, boutiques, coffee shops etc. One of my favorite things to do is to find a coffee shop and try their coffee, along with a delicious pastry. I always find a cute coffee shop!

I can’t wait to go back to Charleston and add a more extensive travel guide!

xoxo, MK

Kailan & Tyler | A Sweet, End of Summer Engagement Session at Annesdale Mansion | Memphis Luxury Wedding Photographer

Kailan and Tyler engagement session at Annesdale Mansion shot by Mary Kate Steele Photography

It was clear from the moment I met these two in person for their engagement session that Tyler is crazy in love with his girl, Kailan. I love witnessing the love each of my couples share for one another. Everyone shows love in different ways, but the way Tyler showed his towards Kailan really spoke to me. Not only was he not bashful about showing how much he adores his soon-to-be bride, but he loves her with a sweet, tender love - a gentle love that is crazy about her and the little things she loves, like bows and ruffles. She is his princess.

During their engagement session, I encouraged them to start dancing. Tyler had no shame showing off his dance moves, including what he called “his signature move when he dances with Kailan”. Scroll down to see what I’m talking about. It’s super cute. :)

Kailan first caught Tyler’s eye in eighth grade! Back then he asked her out and she turned him down! (he wanted to make sure I knew that version of the “how did you two meet” story). According to Kailan, she thought Tyler was too cool for her at the time. Fast forward to last year, they reconnected and he had the courage to ask this pretty blonde out once again! This time, she said yes!

Then, he got her to say “yes” to forever! I cannot wait for their April wedding at the beautiful Annesdale Mansion in Memphis, TN. <3

So here’s a question for my readers: How did you meet you significant other? I love hearing how two people, who fall in love, meet for the first time.

Mommy & Me matching with my little boy + A Giveaway! | Fashion | Memphis Fashion Photographer

Toddler Boy Fashion, Toddler Boy clothes, "You're killing me smalls"

I LOVE getting creative with outfits so that me and Mark can match! Not the cheesy matchy-match, but the fun, cute matching outfits that compliment one an other. It can be difficult finding outfits to match with your little boy, but I am always up for a good challenge. So, I decided to browse Etsy and came across the cutest matching Tees. The set I decided to buy: mine says, "You're killing me smalls" and Mark's says, "Smalls". I saw this specific t-shirt set on Pinterest a long time ago and kinda forgot about it! When I saw this set, I just had to get it!

When Mark was just a teeny tiny baby (and believe me, he was teeny), I had so much fun dressing him in the littlest things (jean jackets, blue jeans, sneakers, hiking boots, striped tees, puffer vests - you probably get the picture. *grin*). He really is my little baby doll. Now that he is older and bigger though, it just gets more and more fun dressing him! haha! Now it's little boy converse, snapbacks, hipster glasses, knee high adidas socks, dress shirts, baseball tees etc.

Mark and I went out and got some fun pictures wearing our new match tee set. Etsy store: Saltee Beaches Apparel did an incredible job with these printed tees! Her tees are so soft and comfortable and run very true to size. They are simple and so easy to dress up a bit or dress down. I personally love the baseball tee style on Mark, but she has options (baseball tee and short sleeve) in both children's and adult sizes. We will really enjoy wearing these all year long! :)

Saltee Beaches Apparel and I have teamed up to give one lucky Mama a matching tee set just like ours! Winner will be announced Friday, July 20th!! Good luck!!
