A Weekend Getaway at the Fox House Treehouse in Nashville, TN | Lifestyle and Travel | Tennessee Wedding Photographer

Anyone else fascinated by treehouses?! I think they are just so cool and I’ve been dying to stay in one. Someday I would love to go out to Washington State and stay in one of the really big treehouses they have built out there! I’ve seen there are some pretty spectacular ones in Washington and South Carolina!

Over the summer, I stumbled upon this really cute, quaint tiny treehouse in Nashville, TN! I had no clue there was one so close that I just had to see about staying there! Luckily, it worked out and wow, ya’ll it was perfect! This sweet little abode is tucked away in a serene backyard, lights strung from the trees and house and a hammock hanging just over yonder.

When I stepped inside the sweet little oasis, it was like walking into a real life Anthropolgie catalog. It was absolutely darling. Scroll through the pictures to see what I am talking about! I think my favorite part of staying in the Fox House was laying still on the bed, staring outside the big window and just listening. Listening to the birds chirp, the frogs ribbit, the leaves wrestle in the trees and watching little yellow lights flicker in the dark from the hundreds of lightning bugs.

My favorite moment was falling asleep listening to an owl “hoo-ing” and reading steadily hitting the roof. It was so peaceful. The windows were cracked, the balcony door open and the light of the moon shining through. There was no TV or WiFi and limited cell service, forcing me to simply enjoy the world around me. I woke up the next morning to it still raining and outside the big treehouse window, I watched a gorgeous wild red fox tiptoeing across the way.

Needless to say, this darling place was just what my soul needed this Summer! Also, now I definitely need to get out to Washington and continue this treehouse adventure! Anyone else want to stay in a treehouse? Where would you want to go? Let me know in the comments!❤️

xoxo, MK

Summer Evening Engagement at Tuscan Ridge | Shannon and Matthew | Tennessee Wedding Photographer

sunset-engagement-at-tuscan-ridge-shannon-matthew-mary-kate-steele-photography

How adorable are these three?! I was so excited when Shannon and Matthew asked me about bringing their precious fur-baby, Sebago (her name is inspired after a beautiful lake in Maine). I love when my couples bring their fur-babies along to sessions. Shannon and Matthew both grew up in Maine! Visiting Maine is on my travel list for sure!

Shannon and Matthew are goofy, down to earth and so much fun with each other! They are adorably playful and constantly make each other laugh. Their laughter is contagious. They had me laughing throughout the entire session — we all just had lots of fun! Sebago is too cute! She was such a good girl and they all braved the sticky southern heat like champs.

The theme for their wedding day is inspired from the Broadway show, Wicked! Guys, seriously, how awesome is that?! Shannon came to me with the idea to use a green smoke grenade as a way to incorporate the Wicked theme into their session and I was like “Heck YES! I am all here for it!” Ya’ll it turned out SO cool! I’m so down for more smoke grenades sessions. I am even more excited to see how Shannon and Matthew add Wicked to their wedding day details! I know Shannon, who is a school teacher, will do it with such class and excellent taste. :)

A Cute, Small Town 4th of July Engagement Session in Lititz, Pennsylvania | Lauren and Kyle | Pennsylvania Wedding Photographer

Lititz is my small hometown! It is as idyllic as you can imagine. It is a storybook small town with German influence and New England colonial architecture. (Maybe I should do a blog post featuring my favorite hometown?). It’s where I grew up, made some of my most cherished memories and met some of my dearest friends. One of those dearest friends is my down the street, childhood BFF, Lauren! I think we were about 5 years old when our special friendship first began. We did everything together: sleepovers, played dress up, built old sheet teepee tents out in the backyard, was each other’s sidekick on a few family vacations, all of it. When I think of my childhood and growing up, Lauren will always be a part of those chapters and I am so thankful she was. :)

As most friendships do, ours went through a season where we went our own ways — explored college and made our way through this whole thing called being an “adult”. We always kept in touch here and there, but had our own busy lives! You know how it goes. About a year ago, we really reconnected and it’s been so much fun! Lauren is a world traveler so she’s been giving me all the tips for my upcoming trips! She’s also inspired me to become more dedicated to running. This girl is a beast and has competed in so many marathons. One day, I’d like to compete in my own.

I was SO excited when Lauren asked me to shoot her and Kyle’s engagement session! I was even more excited when they decided last minute to do their session in our sweet Lititz. Lititz has one of the oldest running 4th of July celebrations, setting the bar pretty high — there really isn’t a 4th celebration like it! I’m talking about full-blown hometown parade on the 3rd with a full day of festivities in the town park on the 4th completed with a fantastic firework, laser light show! Kyle and Lauren are getting married next year right after the 4th of July, so it only seemed appropriate to incorporate Lititz and the 4th of July celebrations into their session!

Lauren and Kyle are both school teachers and they are so passionate about it! Together they have a few fur-babies and are renovating a house they just bought together!

I am so excited that I get the honor of celebrating with them next July in MEXCIO!
